Mornington peninsula Farmgate Guide
A History of Celebrating Local Producers and Provenance
The newly renamed Mornington Peninsula Farmgate Guide—formerly Get Fresh at the Farm Gate—has its origins in the late 1990s, when a small collective of producers led by blueberry growers Jill and Rod Sanders of Drum Drum farm, came together to help visitors and residents discover seasonally available Peninsula produce. Some of the original farms remain part of the guide today, including Bryant’s Organics, Mock Red Hill, Ripe & Ready Cherry Farm, and Rocky Creek (formerly Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm).
Over time, the brochure grew in popularity, with distribution expanding from the farm gates to tourism offices and key visitor hot spots. In 2019, it was formally adopted by the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Mornington Peninsula Produce (MPP) initiative, creating a strong link with the region’s certified provenance program. The MPP trademark guarantees consumers that the produce showcased in the guide is genuinely grown, raised, or made on the Peninsula, reinforcing the region’s identity as one of Australia’s leading food-producing areas.
The guide features 24 farms spread from Baxter to Boneo, making it easier than ever for locals and visitors to discover seasonal, farm‑fresh produce across the Peninsula. Showcasing everything from orchards and dairies to honey producers and market gardens, it supports the farmers who sustain the region’s vibrant food economy. By encouraging people to explore roadside stalls and family‑run operations, the guide strengthens community connections and reinforces a thriving, resilient local food system.
In 2026, the guide has a new look. Rebranded as the Mornington Peninsula Farmgate Guide and, for the first time, is being developed in collaboration with MP Wines Mornington Peninsula Wine Guide. This partnership unites the region’s celebrated food and wine producers in two side-by-side guides, offering an enriched experience for both residents and visitors.
