Peninsula Organics
Our Story
Once conventional farmers, Wayne and Tash Shields of Peninsula Fresh Organics make a very convincing case for going organic.
Wayne is a fifth generation farmer and had experienced problems with unexplained toxins in imported horticultural chemicals which wiped out a complete crop and damaged others.
They became certified organic in 2010 and have seen their land come back into balance with frogs, snakes and ducks returning to their Mornington Peninsula property.
The Sheilds farm around 240 acres of land and grow approximately 20 different lines of vegetables, including radish, Asian greens, leeks, lettuce varieties, rainbow chard, broccoli, cauliflower and more. The Shields grow around 40 lines, including heirloom and heritage vegetables, contemporary hybrids and some vegetables which vanished off most supermarket shelves many years ago but which can be found in the Shield’s farmgate shop in Baxter.
Peninsula Organic Farmgate is an organic independent store which is located in the Baxter Village at 94 Baxter Tooradin Road. The majority of vegetables in the farmgate store are grown by Peninsula Fresh Organics on their Baxter farm, or on their Barnham farm. To supplement the produce, they also carry other fruit and veg suppliers as well as certified organic meat from Cherry Tree Organics, Cleavers, milk & cream from Schulz Organic Dairy, yoghurt from Barambah & CSM Organics, eggs and grocery items.
Peninsula Organic Farmgate are proud to say that they only stock Certified Organic produce.
